Rakim Speaks On Jay-Z Being The G.O.A.T.
Who’s the best MC, Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas? Those three wordsmiths are still in the best MC conversation to this day, but when Hov first spit the classic line on “Where I’m From” off 1997’s In My Lifetime Vol.1, most heralded one MC in particular as the Greatest of All Time: Rakim.Twelve years later, several names have been added to the endless debate. Some feel Tupac Shakur is second to none while others think Eminem’s lyrical skills and commercial success has earned him consideration. But again, one name seemingly keeps popping on top of the list: Jay-Z. BET.com recently caught up with the original God MC to see what he thinks about Jigga arguably being the Greatest of All Time.
“I think it’s only right that these new names and some of these other cats is gon get mentioned in that circle,” Ra told BET. “What I did and that feeling that I gave the game when I was at that forefront was then. The same feeling that I gave to certain people is a feeling that Jay is giving to certain people today.”
“I gotta understand that the era calls for a different time where different people get the spotlight,” he continued.“My thing is, I just hope that what I did do is strong enough to last a few more years to keep my name in that loop for a few more years.”
