The Pelican Brief: New Orleans Hornets Taking on a New Name (By: @BWMahoney213)
Congratulations, Anthony Davis! You’ve just been selected number one overall for the New Orleans…Pelicans?
Tuesday night, word broke out that Tom Benson (also the owner of the NFL New Orleans Saints) will be converting the once eye-catching logo of the hornet to the Louisiana state bird of a pelican.
From once being known as the New Orleans Jazz (now in Utah—is there any actual jazz music there?) to then moving to Charlotte and claiming an eye-catching basketball-dribbling hornet for the 1990’s, the essence of this franchise has made plenty of cosmetic moves. The franchise even redesigned the hornet logo, uniform, and colors in the late 2000’s when Chris “CP3”Paul’s fame soared.
Benson’s wife apparently wished for the team to alter their colors from teal , purple, and gold to red, navy blue, and gold.
Is it a good-bye to the Hornet forever? It may not.
Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan issued some interest in bringing back the slick Hornet to his own (now decimated and irrelevant) franchise. The Bobcats have never made it to the post-season since their 2005 inception. By 2013-2014, what better time to makeover that franchise !
