If your blood pressure spikes at the thought of Andy Reid and how he’s squandered your Philadelphia Eagles, maybe you should stop reading this article now because my topic is simple: Andy Reid will likely return as head coach in 2013.

Yes, this is painful to swallow for most Eagle fans, but the systematic pattern of the news surrounding the Philadelphia’s camp seems almost like an extended daytime soap opera that has characters dropping left and right week after week. From the jaw-dropping firing of Juan Castillo, to Michael Vick lost to injury, there would be several trivial firings made week by week in the high end of the front office (like Senior VP of Communications) to the snaking out of DE Jason Babin and his sidekick defensive line coach Jim Washburn just made today. We all know the climactic ending once the final whistle is blown at the New Meadowlands on December 30, where millions of midnight green-wearing patient fans will breathe a sigh of relief to the New Year festivities and a long-awaited press conference from the man upstairs—Jeffrey Lurie.

The Eagles’ cliffhanger will finally be revealed at Owner Jeffrey Lurie’s state-of-the-union press conference.

Yet, it won’t go over how it should go over. Simply put, Andrew Reid should be relieved of his duties as the 14-year Head Coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. One final embrace of the successful coach would make a landmark media day where reporters will ask Lurie numerous questions on what the future beholds as he’ll promise a new day will dawn with their candidate.

Seems too good to be true, correct?

Here’s how it will boil down to once the season is over. Lurie will hold another massive state-of-the-union address with a script in front of him. He will scold every facet of his precious investment of a team from top to bottom. Lurie will cast this leery tone of how distasteful the play was and how the talent did not rise to the occasion amid such hype coming into the season. He’ll use the word “unacceptable” at various times.

Lurie will cast his thoughts on to the head coach and introduce Reid’s relationship with these players and how they bonded through the good and bad. His next maneuver will blow everyone away in the media—he’ll bring up Reid’s departed son, Garrett Reid.

This will subtly become the first excuse to many as to why and how Reid struggled to focus on doing the best he could for his players because his family issues were clouding Reid’s week to week function. Lurie will commend Reid’s efforts and Lurie will voice out to how he is proud of working with a strong individual that had obstacles in 2012.

The next maneuver—the obstacles were outside of Reid’s control. Lurie may use the next line to deliver the set up to what he’s getting to at the press conference. Lurie will next state how Reid’s management of coaching staff was bothersome and troubling in leading the players to victory. Obviously, Jim Washburn will become the talking point here at how the Eagles’ atrocious defensive line could rarely sack nor touch a quarterback. Lurie will dismiss the Wide 9 as an experiment gone wrong. Lurie will give note that Juan Castillo was needed to bond with the players for an in-house purpose and Reid made a decision to help the team once Castillo was booted. Lurie will mention the angst Jason Babin brought to the team and how his cancerous attitude held other players back.

This final segway will be the knockout punch not even Rocky Balboa could match. Lurie will allude to the Terrell Owens issues back in 2005 and laud Reid’s tolerance of such disenchanted individuals and (again) mention Reid is all about his players. Lurie will add that Reid is the cornerstone to the franchise and that the Eagles’ future will depend on him for the growth and guidance of the new quarterback Nick Foles. Assuming Foles performs well between December 3, 2012 and December 30, 2012, Lurie will remind the Eagles faithful how outstanding Reid made with Donovan McNabb, A.J. Feeley, Kevin Kolb, and Michael Vick. The elephant in the room on whether or not Vick will return may be dismissed, but Lurie will note the significant injuries on the offensive line and how returning stars Jason Peters and Todd Herremans will solidify a future with Nick Foles.

And here it is:  “…As well as the future and security of Andy Reid’s job here as Philadelphia’s Head Coach.”

Thunder will rumble metaphorically all over the Delaware Valley. Fans will turn their heads in shock, and Andy Reid’s nine lives—make that fifteen lives—will continue into the 2013 in his final year of his contract. Lurie will note that the contract will be decided in this season and that Reid’s quest is not over and that he will pull for Reid’s best interest as a competitor feared among other NFL head coaches.
