PHILADELPHIA, PA – OCTOBER 22, 2012 – Executive Producer and Director Charles Gregory is gearing up for the 8th Annual New York Television Film Festival (NYTVF) that will be held October 22nd through October 27th in Manhattan. He along with the “Philly Media Shack” and the “House of Charles Gregory” is very excited that the new ground breaking docu-series “Muslimahs & Philadelphia” has earn a top 25 position for a development opportunity with Lifetime; cable television station owner by Hearst Corporation, and the Walt Disney with 15% owned formerly by NBC Universal. If selected as a finalist, he will have a chance to advance to the network for consideration as one winner will receive the opportunity to participate in the production of a pilot based on their unscripted concept. Concepts submitted for the opportunity with Lifetime is based on originality and unique personalities of worlds that bring a fresh perspective to the television landscape as the network is changing its programming.

“Muslimahs & Philadelphia” is an unscripted original docu-series form whereby it differs from the platforms of conventional reality TV. Muslimahs & Philadelphia” was developed with the purpose of providing mainstream Americans with the opportunity to meet and experience the day-to-day lives of a diverse group of Muslim women living in America, and in a major metropolitan city such as Philadelphia. Showing these women in contrast to the stereotypes propagated in the media is extremely important as it is these same stereotypes that cause dissension to a community as a whole, when trying to coexist with various cultures. The show aims to depict a cast of 5 Muslims women that work in America with traditional occupations such as fashion designers, make-up artist, hair stylist and etc… to uncover the stereotypes that is faced with wearing Muslim garbs and practicing the religion. “This show is well needed as many shows that have depicted Muslim women were from Muslims that do not live in America and there is an intrinsic difference. The Muslim culture is very close and this show is the first of its kind to give potential viewers an inside perspective from the mouths of Muslim women. I hope through this documentary that we can enlighten and motivate others that Muslims can wear garbs, but have no bearing on their work ethics or ability to have a traditional job/career,” says Charles Gregory. Through “Muslimahs & Philadelphia” Charles Gregory aims to show positivity and not exploit by debunking the myths and stereotypes of what it means to be a Muslim and showing that most Muslims are not terrorists, oppressed, and always cloaked in Burkas. Charles Gregory also wishes to capture the cast as being educated, career-oriented and family focused individuals that contribute greatly in their community. This is a crucial concept in helping to re-shape the minds of potential viewers with a positive public perception of Muslim women in America.
