It’s not everyday that seriously promising hip-hop talent emerges from the deserts of Phoenix, Arizona – and even less often does that talent transplant itself there by way of Dallas, Texas, and Anchorage, Alaska. But for emerging duo Full |REBEL| Jacket, the pairing of rapper’s G and Q, that’s exactly what happened, forming after striking up artistic chemistry through a series of parking lot freestyle sessions. Now, on September 3rd, Full |REBEL| Jacket will release their new free EP, the REBEL EP, and today, FRJ is excited to release the project’s debut single and video, “Stray Bullet.”

“Stray Bullet” features legendary Dungeon Family member Big Rube (“We’re blessed to have him on the song; no one can do it like he does,” says Q), and, according to FRJ, the song was inspired by an observation. “We began to notice,” says Q, explaining the meaning of the song title, “that a lot of people didn’t recognize the unintentional consequences that their actions would cause.”

For their verses, G and Q pulled not only from observation but also from their own experiences. “My verse came from a very personal place,” notes G. “It’s about a situation with a female friend who had an abortion – the idea of a man wrestling with the consequences of telling her to get one, the emotions leading up to it, and the aftermath that follows.”

The video, self-directed by Full |REBEL| Jacket, who also wrote the treatment, handled casting, and scouted locations, doesn’t actually feature any of the artists on the song – instead, the video tells the song’s story. “The visuals for the first verse show the aftermath of the story being told in that verse, while the visuals for the second verse show what happens leading up to the story in the second verse” explains Q. G adds, speaking on the video’s artistic direction, “The visual aesthetic was inspired by older film noir movies – movies that placed more focus on a story than on special effects.”
