William Still was an abolitionist, writer, and businessman; both of his parets were former slaves. In 1847, Still become an active abolitionist, taking the postion as clerk in the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society and later serving as secretary of Philadelphia Vigilance Committee. He also aided slaves to the Underground Railroad.
