Tell Your Governor to Say “No” to Corrections Corporation of America (CCA)
Join us in urging our Governors to publicly commit to decline CCA’s offer to buy up and privatize state prisons. On Wednesday April 18th, call and ask your State Governor to make a public commitment before June 1, 2012 to decline CCA’s offer to privatize prisons.
Recently,Corrections Corporation of America’s sent a letter to 48 US Governors offering to spend up to $250 million to buy prisons from state, local, and federal government entities on conditions of a minimum commitment of 20 years for the facility and maintaining 90% capacity over the twenty year period.
These outrageous offer strikes at the heart of a democracy grounded in human rights and compassion within our criminal justice system – our beliefs in fair and just punishment, rehabilitative and restorative justice, death and dying with dignity. Out of concern for the mass criminalization and incarceration for all of our brothers and sisters who are racially profiled, rounded up on behalf of the War on Drugs, and warehoused in prisons, we will not be silent!
