80 Bites (@80Bites) – The 80 Bites Rap [Music Video]

Puff said, “It’s all about the Benjamins” but really, it’s all about the bites, my friend. Or so says this turnt up rappity-rapping animated cartoon stomach character named Sam Stomach. If you’re like everyone else on planet Earth who made a health-related New Years resolution, this video is for you. If you don’t know that your stomach is NOT located below your belly button but actually under your left breast, this video is for you. If you’re 40 pounds overweight and thus at risk to get diabetes, this video is for you. Or if you just like to share trippy shit with your friends, this video is for you.

Set against a backdrop of visual cues from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince’s “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and Kanye’s “Mercy” music videos, is Sam Stomach who waxes poetic about the concept of eating less – he advises to aim for 80 bites per day. “That’s just weird. And who cares!” says you. Easy there, player. Taking fewer bites of food is the truth; it retrains your stomach container to return to its original size, which leads to fewer constant cravings, and your body absorbs fewer calories. So simple it’s almost silly.

The truth is, we’re slowly killing ourselves. Obesity and diabetes are on the rise, so much so, that health-related articles are fast becoming front-page news: beverage companies and the celebrities that endorse them are feeling the heat while CNN reports that obesity is surpassing smoking as America’s number one killer and is the now the leading cause of preventable death. They even had to change the damn name of Adult Onset Diabetes to Type II Diabetes because so many kids started to get it. So how do you get it? Just by being fat—not large-and-in-charge like Big Pun (RIP), just the normal kind of heavy you see on every block, in every neighborhood, in every city. Rich and poor; old and now young (!); black and white; male and female, we’re all at risk. Worse yet, African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans are TWICE as likely to develop diabetes because of genetics. Here’s the shocker: an extra 40 pounds and it could be you. Just like my friend who lost a foot. Or you could be just really thirsty, peeing all the time, feel dead tired, develop blurry eyesight, and then your kidneys fail, followed by blindness, a failing heart, and nerve damage.

80Bites plan:
You can lose weight on any diet, but 95% of people regain – 80Bites is about keeping the weight off for good. The problem with most diets – from Atkins to cleanses – is that they ignore the stomach. Whether you’re grazing all day, eating unlimited amounts of “good” foods or cutting out whole food groups, the result is the same: your stomach is always craving food. By focusing on the “how much” before the “what,” you retrain your stomach to eat less, naturally.

80Bites app:
The 80Bites app is a sleek, simple, “pedometer for your mouth.” It’s easy to use: after every mouthful of food, just tap the “Bite” button. At the end of each day, check the Progress page. Sam Stomach, the humorous mascot, will tell you how much you’re eating, when you’re eating the most, and how fast you’re chewing. After just a few days of use, you’ll know if you’re overeating. It doesn’t matter if it’s a hot dog or a salad: a bite is a bite! By getting a handle on how much you’re eating, you’ve taken the first step to keeping weight off for good.
