Human Driver Crashes Google’s Self Driving Car
Google’s self driving cars have gotten into their first accident, Justin Hyde at Jalopnik reports.
A reader sent in a photo of a Google car having rear ended another Prius. You can tell it’s a self driving car by the thing on the roof of the car.
Thankfully, this wasn’t a very serious accident.
A Google spokesperson gave us this quote about the accident: “Safety is our top priority. One of our goals is to prevent fender-benders like this one, which occurred while a person was manually driving the car.”
Ironic that the car got in an accident while being manually driven. Maybe they should have stuck to letting the robot control things.
UPDATE: The original version of this post didn’t have a comment from Google, and said that it was going to make getting self driving cars a reality almost impossible. If it’s true that a person is to blame for this accident, then it will have the opposite effect! More robo-drivers!
