#WeatherWars: 6.5 Earthquake Hits Mexico, No Damage Reported

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake was felt across Mexico this morning. It happened a little more than hour before the 7.1 earthquake hit Japan. Luckily, the Mexican earthquake happened very deep underground, so no damage has been reported.

The United States Geological Survey puts the depth of the quake at 104 miles and its epicenter in the state of Veracruz, about 360 miles from Mexico City.

The Mexican daily El Universal reports that the earthquake shook buildings in the capital city, and several of them were evacuated. Mexico’s National Seismological Service, reports El Universal, put the quake at a 6.7 magnitude.

Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Mexico City’s chief of government, reported on Twitter that a survey of the city concluded no damage was caused by the quake.
