mcgrady pd Tracy McGrady star takes leave from team after Rockets hand Nets 9th straight loss

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—While Tracy McGrady’s role with the team remained in question, the Houston Rockets kept right on rolling without him.

Reserve Carl Landry scored 26 points to lead the Rockets to a 98-93 victory Saturday night over New Jersey, sending the Nets to their ninth straight loss.

The win capped a tumultuous day for the Rockets in which McGrady, a two-time NBA scoring champion, left the team to return to Houston. He will not play Sunday when the Rockets travel to Cleveland.

McGrady has been unhappy with his diminished role. He has appeared in six games this season following microfracture surgery on the left knee in February, averaging only 3.2 points a game in the comeback.

Ford brings Wi-Fi to the highway

t1larg.car .internet.wired Ford brings Wi Fi to the highway

(WIRED) – Ford is making its cars into mobile Wi-Fi hot spots.

The next generation of the Sync in-car entertainment and information system will use a USB mobile broadband modem to establish a secure wireless connection capable of supporting several devices simultaneously.

The system will be available next year on selected models — no word yet which ones — and you won’t need a subscription or hardware beyond the modem.

“While you’re driving to grandma’s house, your spouse can be finishing the holiday shopping and the kids can be chatting with friends and updating their Facebook profiles,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of the Americas. “And you’re not paying for yet another mobile subscription or piece of hardware because Ford will let you use technology you already have.”

The Trials of Lil Wayne, the "Hardest-Working Man in Hip-Hop"

by iSpit

articleLarge The Trials of Lil Wayne, the "Hardest Working Man in Hip Hop"

Jon Carmanica does one of those “we understand rap music” articles for the NYPost:

For someone who made ubiquity his art form, Lil Wayne has done a stupendous job of disappearing this year. Sure, he was on tour and at the Grammys, but the stream of mixtapes and freestyles on which he built his reputation slowed to a drip. While he was taking a breather, others — in particular, Gucci Mane, and Lil Wayne’s protégé Drake — took his template and ran with it.

On Feb. 9 Lil Wayne will appear in State Supreme Court in Manhattan to be sentenced in connection with a 2007 charge for gun possession. He is expected to begin serving his sentence that same day: an enforced absence instead of the voluntary break he has been taking.

Irony reigns if Pacquiao-Malignaggi is made

by iSpit

1261863422 Irony reigns if Pacquiao Malignaggi is made

It is the most bizarre of sagas, a spasmodically woven tale of speculation, innuendo, litigation and public feuding, and boxing awaits its outcome with feverish anticipation. The political, legal and tactical wrangling that has overshadowed what is supposed to be 2010’s greatest battle, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, has often been so outlandish that it could not have been scripted.

Yet the emergence of Paulie Malignaggi as Pacquiao’s proposed next opponent, as the Filipino’s promoter, Bob Arum tries to take a step back from what is rapidly degenerating into a twisted mess with Mayweather, is merely serving to provide the greatest contradiction and irony of the entire story.

US President Barack Obama has ordered a review of air security measures after a Nigerian man allegedly tried to blow up a trans-Atlantic jet on Christmas Day.

Spokesman Robert Gibbs said the president wanted to know how a man carrying dangerous substance PETN had managed to board a flight in Amsterdam.

He said the system of watch-lists would also be examined after it emerged the man was listed and known to officials.

A US record for 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was created last month.

The Unkut Guide To Rap Genres

by iSpit

witt library london The Unkut Guide To Rap Genres

There are so many different types of rap today that almost anybody’s taste can be catered to. But how do you keep up with them all? Let’s take a quick look at some of the important rap genres that are out there right now…

Shout Rap

During the mid-80’s, Shout Rap was the move. Run-DMC perfected it and thousands followed until Rakim shut that shit down with his laid-back, precise delivery on ‘Eric B. Is President’. M.O.P., Bumpy Knuckles and Willie D keep it alive to this day.

Weed Carrier Rap

You got your deal because your boy had a hit. See: Bravehearts, Drag-On, St. Lunatics, Flipmode, D-12 etc.

Whisper Rap

Some people think that Young Chris from the Young Guns invented this technique. These people are morons. LL Cool J created that shit on his first album on joints like ‘I Want You’ and, more famously, ‘I Need Love’ on the follow-up. Currently still popular with Jay-Z and Termanology.

Champagne Rap

Another LL innovation, even though it alienated most of fans on Walking Like A Panther. Puffy, who was his manager at the time, took note and re-introduced the genre to the world with Biggie and Mase five years later. Jay-Z another early adopter, has since moved onto Wine Rap.
